Head Men's Soccer Coach
Josh Pittman

Josh Pittman begins his fifth year as head coach of the men’s soccer program. The first and only Coach in the programs five year history, Pittman was named head coach on March 6, 2007.

Last season Pittman guided the Mavericks to its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference post-season tournament posting a 10-7-2 overall record. The Mavericks finished 6-6-2 in league play and a fifth place finish in the RMAC standings.

The 2010 season marked the first time in school history a MSC player earned All-Region recognition. Jake Jobe was named to the NSCAA and Daktronics All-Region Team.

Academically Jobe became the first men’s soccer player to be named All-West Region Scholar Athlete. Jobe was named RMAC/MSC male scholar athlete for 2010-2011.

Coach Pittman coached five RMAC All-Conference honorees and three academic all-conference student-athletes in 2010.

In 2010 the Mavericks finished seventh in the RMAC final standings. The Mavs placed three players on the RMAC All-Conference Third Team in Sam Dixon, Jake Jobe and Josh Tinaglia. RMAC All-Academic First Team honors went to Alex Mattevi, Jobe and Tinaglia for their outstanding work in the classroom.

Under Coach Pittman’s guidance the Mavericks earned nationally recognition for the first time in its young existence in 2008 after starting the year 6-1. MSC earned their first nationally ranking at No. 23 following a loss to #7-ranked Fort Lewis College (0-1) and after an overtime loss at #18-ranked Metro State (0-1 OT), MSC fell to No. 25. In 2008 four Mavericks earned post season RMAC All-Conference honors and three Mavs were named First Team All-Academic. Goalkeeper Josh Tinaglia earned ESPN Academic District 7 First Team honors.

In Pitman’s first season he guided the Mavericks to a 7-6-4 overall record, including#7 ranking in the Division II Mid-West poll (October 16, 2007). MSC recorded wins over Regis University and played nationally ranked Fort Lewis College to a 1-1 tie.

The Mavericks placed three players on the All-RMAC team including the Mavs leading scorer, junior midfielder Eric Anderson, a first team honoree.  Sophomores Jake Jobe and Josh Tinaglia represented MSC on the second team.

Pittman has over 17 years of coaching experience at various levels including college, high school and youth soccer. A former professional player in the old Continental Indoor Soccer League and college soccer player at UMass, Pittman most recently was the Technical Director of the Grand Junction Soccer Club.  His involvement continues in youth soccer as he is the Boys Director for the new Colorado West Select Soccer Club based here on the Western Slope.

Prior to coaching at Mesa State, Pittman was a staff coach for the Real Colorado Soccer Club in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

From 2000-2002 he assisted the men's soccer coach at Metropolitan State College of Denver in training, recruiting, academic management and scouting. The 2000 team earned a NCAA tournament berth and finished with a national ranking.

Pittman earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. His Master's of Education with a concentration in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University and numerous coaching licenses with the USSF (United States Soccer Federation) and the NSCAA (National Soccer Collegiate Athletic Association).

Colorado Mesa University is a member of NCAA Division II.
